Dozens of workers at the Brooklyn Museum threatened with firing have avoided layoffs following agreements between the institution’s management, District Council 37, and UAW Local 2110.

The deal will permit the workers to instead take voluntary buyout packages that include three weeks' pay for each year of service, health insurance for up to four months and a reference letter from management to help find new employment.

“We secured an agreement that is fair and results in no layoffs for our members,” DC 37’s executive director, Henry Garrido, said in a statement. “The outcome of these negotiations is a testament to the power of union representation — when we fight together, we win. We will continue pushing for sustainable funding for the city’s cultural institutions.”

“While it was a difficult process, the two unions working in solidarity made a big difference,” said UAW Local 2110 Organizing Director Maida Rosenstein. Read more in The Chief-Leader.
