Brooklyn Defender Services Union Announces Tentative Agreement

ALAA-UAW 2325 announced this week that Brooklyn Defender Services Union has reached a tentative agreement after four days on strike. The Union achieved historic gains in this collective bargaining cycle, including introducing a salary step scale for all workers, significantly eroding management rights, and successfully staving off the employers' proposal to geo-locate and track union members during and after work hours.

That doesn't mean they're turning down the heat! More than 550 public defenders could be on strike as early as today, Friday, July 24th at 8:00am. Neighborhood Defender Services (NDS) Union has set a strike deadline for today, and the Bronx Defenders (BxD) Union has likewise set a strike deadline of Monday 7/27. If a strike is necessary, NDS Union and BxD Union will announce picket times and locations via their instagram pages. Both Unions are fighting to maintain status quo benefits:  NDS workers are fighting to maintain the cost-free union health insurance, and BxD workers are fighting to maintain equal pay for all professional employees, including attorney and social worker union members.
