Mere days away from the busiest shopping day of the year, workers of Back Market US delivered a letter to CEO Thibaud Hug de Larauze and all executive members announcing the formation of a union and requesting voluntary recognition. This new union, Back Makers United, is affiliated with the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 153 and authorized by 75% of Back Market US eligible employees.

Back Market is a leading international e-commerce marketplace for refurbished technology headquartered in France, and the unionizing workers in the US have been critical to the company’s development in the States. This union announcement came as workers face the busiest time of the year in e-commerce: Black Friday and the holiday season.

“As a small but mighty team, we carry important objectives for our international company’s growth in the US. Our staff is consistently called to work above and beyond to meet these strategic goals," said Steven Rich, a 5-year Back Market employee and member of Back Makers United. "We know that the Union will strengthen our resolve as workers and provide a reliable roadmap for the future. We’re proud of our environmentally-driven mission, and through unionization, we will ensure that our jobs remain sustainable and equitable. This is a necessary path forward to ensure that Back Market remains a place we are proud to work. We’re excited to see CEO Thibaud Hug de Larauze and the executive team showcase their commitment to our company’s mission and values by voluntarily recognizing the union.” Read more here and in the Chief-Leader.
