Alamo Drafthouse Workers Win 58 Day Strike

After nearly two months on strike, Alamo Drafthouse workers in New York City—members of UAW Local 2179—secured a major victory this week. Following sustained pickets, rallies, and support from fellow union members, elected officials, and community allies, the workers reached an agreement that includes the full reinstatement of 70 laid-off employees at the Alamo Drafthouse's Downtown Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan locations. Workers returning to their positions will have their original hire dates, seniority, paid time off, and sick leave fully restored. The agreement comes after weeks of mounting pressure on Sony, Alamo’s parent company, including a high-profile picket and march at its New York headquarters last week.
"Thank you to everyone who supported – all who donated, all who shared, all who showed up, all who boycotted," NYC Alamo United posted on Twitter. "Together, we showed Sony and Alamo who REALLY has the power – the people, when we stand together, united." Read more from Varietyand The Hollywood Reporter.
