Actors' Equity Association has offered testimony in favor of New York City Council INT 0064-2026, legislation that would prohibit pedicabs from parking or doing pickings or dropoffs within 50 feet of any entrance or exit of all theaters in the Theatre District.

"This bill would fix a longstanding and critical safety issue for many of our members – and many other theatre workers – who make their living in the theatre," said Equity Director of Member Safety in Theatrical Facilities Keith Sklar. "For far too long the status quo has presented an unacceptable level of risk for Equity members. The Theatre District always has heavy foot traffic, but the pedicabs have made it so that our members cannot safely navigate the sidewalk leaving work. In the case of an emergency, we need to know these workers could quickly evacuate the building without a tangle of vehicles in the way." Read more here.
