Wednesday, August 20, 4PM: Actors’ Equity Association President Brooke Shields, Equity Executive Director Al Vincent, Jr., Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, NY State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento and NYC Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO President Brendan Griffith will join members of Actors’ Equity Association and the New York City labor movement to rally at the Times Square Pedestrian Plaza, between 45th and 46th Streets, as the AFL-CIO’s “It’s Better in a Union: Fighting for Freedom, Fairness & Security” nationwide bus tour hits New York City. This rally in the heart of the theatre district comes as Equity heads into bargaining with The Broadway League to negotiate the terms under which actors and stage managers will work on Broadway for the next several years.

The rally is part of a nationwide campaign to provide voice to and build power with workers in the two months leading up to Labor Day. While politicians sow chaos in the lives of working people and big corporations profit off our backs, working people across the country and unions are fighting back. The rally will mark the 38th stop on the “It’s Better in a Union” bus tour and the first one it has made in New York City, which is home to more than one million union members.
