Kate Whalen

Kate Whalen joined the NYC CLC as Communications Director in 2018. She oversees the organization’s public communications and media strategy in support of campaigns, policy work, elections, and major public events, including the Triangle Fire Commemoration, Workers Memorial Day, and the New York City Labor Day Parade. Kate works closely with CLC leadership, staff, affiliates, and coalition partners to advance the priorities of the NYC Labor Movement.

Kate has been active in the Labor movement since 2008, when she became a proud member of the Legal Services Staff Association unit of NOLSW/UAW 2320. In addition to her work as Communications Specialist at Legal Services NYC, Kate served as a shop steward, as the unit’s Political Action Representative, and on steering and outreach committees during a successful 6-week strike. Previously, she served as Government Relations Liaison for the Arizona League of Conservation Voters. 

Kate holds a BA in Communications from Boston College and an MA in Labor Studies from CUNY, and is a graduate of the NYS AFL-CIO/Cornell University Union Leadership Institute.
