Michael Ashby

Michael Ashby, born in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. At the age of nine, Mr. Ashby migrated to the United States. In 1999, he worked as a housekeeper at Park Terrance Care Center, Local 1115. In 2001, he became a union delegate after the merger with Local 1115 and 1199 SEIU. In 2006, he was brought on staff as a 1199 Temporary Member Organizer in the New Organizing Department. In this role, Mr. Ashby was very instrumental in organizing over seventy-five thousand homecare workers to join the union.

In 2007, Michael Ashby was converted to a permanent Organizer, where he worked in multiple organizing campaigns in various states. In 2016, Mr. Ashby was later appointed to Vice President for the NY Presbyterian – SSA Area, (NY Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia Medical Center, and Columbia University). Mr. Ashby was reelected as Vice President in 2019 and 2022.

Michael Ashby is also a 2017 valedictorian graduate of Cornell University Union Leadership Institute. After nine years as a Vice President, in 2025, Mr. Ashby was elected as Executive Vice President for the NYU Division which include Health & Hospitals, One Brooklyn Health, and Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center.

In his current role, his leadership style emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and continuous improvement, significantly contributing to the success of the union leadership.
