Statement By President Alvarez on Congress' Failure to Reauthorize the Zadroga Act

New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO President Vincent Alvarez today released the following statement regarding Congress' failure to reauthorize the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, which provides continued funding for health care programs designed to treat those affected by the events of  September 11, 2001:

"Last night at midnight, once again, members of Congress failed the American people.  The failure to extend the benefits devoted to helping protect and improve the health and well-being of some of our nation's most courageous first responders is an absolute disgrace.

We owe more to these workers, and to their families who are still feeling the effects of what happened on September 11, 2001.

Now more than ever, we must recommit to calling on Congress to take a stand to reauthorize the Zadroga Act, and finally do right by the selfless men and women who have already sacrificed so much."
