On August 1 the CWA/IBEW contract with Verizon expired, and 39,000 Verizon workers from Massachusetts to Virginia are now working without a contract. We have been in negotiations with the company since June 22, and the company has barely moved off its initial proposal, which would eliminate job security, cut pensions, increase medical costs, and allow the company to offshore jobs and force transfer workers far from home.

Verizon is seeking these concessions despite $18 billion in profits the company made over the last 18 months, and a quarter of a billion in compensation to its top executives over the last five years

At the same time, Verizon has flouted its obligations under the franchise agreement with NYC to make FiOS available to every New Yorker by the end of 2014. A the same time the company has abandoned upkeep of the traditional landline network, leading to extensive service problems for consumers.  We can't allow this situation to continue.

We need your help. Please join come to the one of the lunchtime rallies this Thursday and stand up for Verizon workers fighting for a good contract, and to bring high speed internet and quality service to all New Yorkers.

Thank you.
