NY Metro Labor Communications Council 39th Annual Convention and Awards Ceremony

The Metro NY Labor Communications Council hosted its 39th Annual Convention and Awards Ceremony today, honoring "The Chief's" Richard Steier as Communicator of the Year.  The day began with a morning panel on low-wage organizing, featuring panelists Janna Pea of RWDSU (Carwash campaign) and Berlin Rosen's Daniel Massey (Fast Food Forward).  During the panel discussion, which was moderated by labor journalist Michael Hirsch, the communicators discussed some of their campaigns' biggest challenges, and largest victories. CLC President Vinny Alvarez also addressed convention attendees about some current and upcoming labor fights, and the importance of standing together to fight for workers.

During the afternoon awards ceremony, UFCW 1500, TWU 100, and Teamsters 237 were some of the biggest winners.  Award categories included "Best Editorial," "Best Tweet," and "Best Work by a Rank & File Member."  The day concluded with an afternoon session on Twitter organizing, led by Charles Lenchner and Elana Levin of Organizing 2.0.
