Ladies of Labor

While most of NYC was trying to avoid the Polar Vortex Tuesday night, 15 women from different unions and organizations got together for the first ever "Ladies of Labor" event.  Ladies of Labor is a network of women in leadership or staff positions at unions, worker organizations, or labor affiliated groups to share stories, provide support, and mentor the next generation of female labor leadership.

AFT President Randi Weingarten was the special guest, and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and Teamsters Local 805 President Sandy Pope also attended. Women from the NYC CLC, TWU Local 100, CIR, UFT, CSA, Teamsters, CWA 1180, were there, as well as representatives of labor-friendly institutions like New York Communities for Change, Faith in NY, the Harry Van Arsdale Center for Labor Studies, and the Murphy Institute.

Ladies of Labor now has a Google group where women share labor job postings, events, and other opportunities.  A next event in honor of Women's History Month is being planned for March.
