New York City Alliance for Retired Americans

In 1981, the Central Labor Council founded a Sub-committee on Aging to fight the growing threats to Social Security, Medicare, SSI, Older Americans' Act and pension rights - programs designed to protect retired Americans and make life better for their families - and to activate retirees.  Over the years the sub-committee evolved into what is now the New York City Alliance for Retired Americans (NYCARA). 

NYCARA believes that the energy and dedication of thousands of union members must not be lost in retirement.  The Alliance supports vital issues and actions in support of organized labor, including picketing, demonstrations, rallies, political activism, health care, pension benefits, lobbying in Albany, Washington, D.C. and City Hall, and any action affecting the dignity of all working men and women.
